Feldman Architecture, located in San Francisco, created The Sanctuary, a home in Palo Alto. The property’s nearness to downtown Palo Alto was a significant main factor for the owners, alongside its all-around garden.

The house is arranged behind a huge oak tree with a shade that extends over the whole front yard.

To arrive at the front door, you must go under the tree’s shade and wind through a progression of patios and gardens.

The building levitates on docks in order to give protection to the roots of the many trees that encompass the house. The floor plate stretches out past the home itself creating a series of docks and patios, joining the interiors with the exteriors.

A loft is located onto the second floor and it’s intended to be rented out, making the home feel very dynamic and ever-changing also in terms of its occupants.
